Leatherworking Leveling Guide

Primary profession1-300

Overview

Leatherworkers make leather and mail armor, armor kits and bags of leather goods from the pelts of beasts. Skinning supplies nearly everything, although the Auction House works when leather is cheap. Where two reagents compete, the route below gives both versions and the price rule for choosing.

Beta build: the skill thresholds on this page were checked against the Forever beta client. Reagents and thresholds can still move before release, and a recipe that has gone yellow no longer gives a point on every craft, so buy a small margin.
  • Vendor goods: Coarse, Fine and Silken Thread, Gray Dye and Salt are sold by the Leatherworking Supply vendor beside most trainers. The Elwynn Forest and Tirisfal Glades trainers have none nearby: use Tharynn Bouden in Goldshire or Abigail Shiel in Brill.
  • Hides: Light, Medium and Heavy Hide are rarer skinning drops that you cure with Salt. Several cheap steps depend on them, so check their price before starting.
  • Earlier thresholds than Classic: many patterns fade about 25 points sooner in Forever. Follow the numbers here, not a Classic list.
  • Camp items: Camp Tent at skill 20 (5 Light Leather) grants rested experience at a campfire, up to 5% of a level once an hour. Tanning Rack (skill 140: 5 Medium Leather, 3 Fine Thread, 2 Simple Wood) and Sewing Machine (skill 300) are crafting stations learned from blueprints.

Train Artisan at skill 200 and level 35 with Hahrana Ironhide (Camp Mojache, Feralas, Horde) or Drakk Stonehand (Aerie Peak, The Hinterlands, Alliance). They are also the only trainers who teach the pattern for the next step; the Expert trainers in Thunder Bluff and Darnassus do not.

Not played yet: the beta level cap stops characters short of Artisan, so this range rests on the skill thresholds stored in the client, not on a tested run. Forever shifted many thresholds compared with Classic, so a Classic Era route is not a safe substitute. Check this part again at launch.

The 225-300 steps will be added here once they have been played on live servers.
